Important Dates To Remember for the 2018 Tax Season

The due dates for businesses such as C-Corporations, single-member LLCs, and sole proprietorship are different from from other businesses such as partnerships and S-Corporations which are typical pass-through entities. The due dates are as follows:

Partnerships and S-Corporations

  • Partnerships returns filing Form 1065 – tax returns are due March 15, 2018
  • S Corporations filing Form 1120s – tax returns are due March 15, 2018
  • Partnerships and S-Corporations may file submit an Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File (Form 7004) – once filed you will be granted a 6-month filing extension to September 17, 2018.

C-Corporations (calendar year operators), single-member LLCs, and sole Proprietorship

  • C-Corporations (who operate on a calendar-year basis) – tax returns are due typically due April 15 (for 2018 Monday, April 16 because April 15 is a Sunday)
  • Sole Proprietors  (who file Schedule C) – tax returns are due typically due April 15 (for 2018 Monday, April 16 because April 15 is a Sunday)
  • Single Member LLCs (whether owned by individuals, sole proprietors or C-Corporations) – tax returns are due typically due April 15 (for 2018 Monday, April 16 because April 15 is a Sunday)
  • Extension to file application may be submitted which grants the above entities more time to submit their tax returns, as follows:
  • Individuals (will file Form 4868) – this grants a 6-month extension, and the new due date will be October 15, 2018
  • C-Corporations on a calendar-year basis (will file Form 7004) – this grants a 6-month extension, and the new due date will be October 15, 2018

C-Corporations (fiscal year operators)

  • C-Corporations on a fiscal-year basis – tax returns are typically due the 15th of the fourth month after year-end (for example, if your company’s year end is October 31, 2017, the tax return is due February 28, 2018)
  • C-Corporations on a fiscal-year basis may also extend the due date of filing – once an extension has been filed, this grants a 6-month extension
